I wasn’t physically present at yesterday’s NORML conference—one of the few usual suspects who wasn’t—but I was there in spirit and by live stream.

The conference went well. Credit where credit’s due and credit is due to Phil Saxby who put in a colossal effort organising the event. Thanks, Phil. Job well done. Also, thanks to Vinny Eastwood and Gary Chiles for setting up the live stream on YouTube.

It’s no secret that I’m at loggerheads with some of the peeps in NORML. There are right ways and wrong ways to go about implementing drug law reform. To hell with the Psychoactive Substances Act! Dissent to be continued …

Here’s the event in two parts, the morning session and the afternoon session, for those interested.

Utilitarianism vs Libertarianism. Socialist pragmatism vs Libertarian Idealism

quote-Aristotle-plato-is-dear-to-me-but-dearer-102583

It has been with great sadness that over the past year I have witnessed my fellow Libertarian Blogger Richard Goode change tack and sail off course, and now become an apologyst for Socialist Statism.

This has been evidenced by his entire behaviour in relation to the Psychoactive Substances Act, and particular with regards to Synthetic Cannabis.

To make my point I refer you to all his Blog posts on this subject in which he consistently demonstrates that he believes all the Negative hype about the dangers of Synthetics… which is in my view incredulous considering the history of Prohibition, and it’s reliance on Lies and phobia about drug use, as supposed vindication for the Governments perpetration of a highly oppressive war upon it’s own citizens.

While he calls himself a Libertarian, He has in reality swallowed the Socialist lie that Harm Minimisation is a legitimate function of Government and has attempted to formulate an argument for this >>>Here<<<, yet it is a tragic testimony to his having put the Cart before the horse. While Libertarianism has many pragmatic advantages over Socialist tyranny, Libertarianism is firstly an Individualist Ideology.... a philosophy which embodies clear principles of Law and Justice which protects the sovereignty of Individuals from tyrannical Government, and the pragmatic advantages for society... to the degree that there are any... are merely the By-product which flows from these principles. The Free society is a far more Humane and enlightened civilisation than socialism, and the type of Self reliant- self responsible, and charitable citizenry it fosters, and the peaceful Social interaction which spontaneously generates in a coexistence free of political coercion and advantage... are all extremely preferable ... pragmatically speaking.... yet to mistake these benefits as being the vindication for it's principles is utterly false. The Vindication for Libertarianism is in it's *Justice* for Individuals, and it's defence of the Individual's self-ownership, and it's Principled limits to political power... whether the will of a Monarch, or 'The mandate of the Majority'...the will of the largest Mob. Ie Libertarianism protects Individuals, minorities, and even Majorities, from Social arbitrary Law. That is what vindicates Libertarianism... not its pragmatic social advantages, and certainly not any idea of 'Harm minimisation' for the individual. Libertarians ought to have social concern for others, yet that is an utterly foreign principle to Libertarian ideology... It is in fact a definitive *Socialist* political lever, and pseudo-justification for Political intervention...and it is here where my friend has gone so far astray... Libertarianism embodies voluntary community action. Believe me when I say that I sympathise which how he was lured down this road... It was because the Anti-Prohibitionist movement (in particular Cannabis Law reformers) whom were never Libertarians began to argue for an end to prohibition... not on the basis of Individual rights, but on the basis that Cannabis was safer than alcohol. This was the socialist 'Harm minimisation' Doctrine... which sought to win over the socialist parliament by convincing a big enough mob that by allowing legal cannabis, they would be helping to reduce the Evils of Alcoholism which have been exacerbated by its monopolistic Legal Status. These arguments are thoroughly aimed at a socialist pragmatic mentality which prevails both within New Zealand's parliament, and in our society as a whole. It is a Utilitarian mentality which has abandoned all ideological principles of justice in pursuit of 'The Greatest Happiness'. Under this philosophy the Government can do whatever it pleases with individuals as long as it can convince a majority, that it's actions are conducive to the collective well being of society as a whole. Thus Individuals have become the property 'of society'. Society may overstep a persons individual liberty and self-responsibility either under the pretence of protecting the Hapless individual from himself, or the pretence of minimizing 'problems' that individual choices can have upon Society at large... esp Financial strains upon 'social services' which are run by the government and funded collectively via taxation. Druggies are deemed to be an inexcusable burden upon the system. pink judge

It is under these pretences that modern Socialist judges have no compunction against Jailing peaceful old Pot smokers whom refuse to submit to the Political will of Nanny state.
*Jail is deemed to be for their own good, and the Good of society as a whole*

They believe the ruinous effects upon an individuals life of incarceration are in fact preferable to ‘allowing him’ to continue in his drug use, and that society is safer while drugs are actively being suppressed by the Police.
*Freedom is dangerous* *Nanna Knows Best* *Etc*.

Now it is not the place here and now for me to argue why this whole socialist perspective is utter tyrannical, or why Libertarianism denies it is the proper duties of government to provide social services like public health care.
It ought to be enough to point out how utterly at variance with Libertarianism, this whole approach to ending Cannabis prohibition is.

I shall proceed to explain how my Brother Blogger took his wrong turn and has now wandered so far off track that he has crossed the line and is no longer worthy of the Name *Libertarian*.
My explanation is not written to vilify, but to show how easily this deviation occurred.

Not only do I sympathise with my fellow blogger, but hope that after contemplating what I have written that he will correct his course back over to the Libertarian side.

Many years ago many Kiwi Libertarians, including myself, as members of the Late Great yet struggling Libertarianz party, were supportive of a proposal written by Richard Goode for having a Transitional policy for Drug Law reform, which was accepted because it provided a rational pathway of least resistance to ending the war on drugs.

Our previous policy of simply legalising all drugs was too much for the voting public to swallow and had absolutely no hope of ever being adopted in totality, and so the new proposal presented to the voting public and parliament, was that the War be de-escalated starting with de-criminalising the softer drugs first, and then as fears were alleviated by having legal highs, that support could then be gained for further reforms, with ultimate end being an absolute end to the war on drugs.

elephant_one_bite

We would devour the Prohibition elephant one bite at a time… leaving the boniest portions till last.
And what defined ‘soft drugs’ was their perceived ‘safer than alcohol’ status.

The virtue of this policy was that it was idealistic, yet also realistic as means to our ultimate end because it was far more popular with the People… there was already support for Cannabis Law reform and our definition of cannabis as a ‘softer drug than alcohol’ was met with great enthusiasm from the Socialist faction of Cannabis Law reform movement whom are by far the greatest majority in the movement.

I have no doubt that Richard ‘liberated’ his definition for ‘soft drugs’ for the Libertarianz party transitional drug policy directly from the Socialists.

Richard’s policy was genius, as it unified Idealism with pragmatical realism, and popularity.
He ought to be proud of it.

Unfortunately though, in the years that have since past, and with the de-registration of the Libertarianz party, and Richard joining and now representing the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party, which is still predominantly a Socialist Party, He has obviously lost his Libertarian bearings.

He has forgotten that The Libertarians supported his transitional policy because of it’s progression of Justice… not because it’s starting point of legalising softer drugs was in any way supposes Libertarians endorse the socialist idea that Governments ought to concern themselves with ‘harm reduction’.

It is only in the light of these sorts of consideration that as Libertarian I had anything good to say about the Psychoactive substances act.

To the degree that it did allow a special dispensation to some products to be legally available, and also allowed a convoluted means (in theory) for other products to eventually make it to Market… having run the ‘regulation gauntlet’, it was supposed to be an improvement on the ‘Ban everything as they appear’ prohibition-ism which was the prevailing ‘socialist wisdom’ at the beginning of the rise of synthetic dugs which are now being manufactured to bypass existing prohibitions.

The thing was that Richard had now utterly lost all sight of what Libertarianism is about, and swallowed the socialist ‘Harm minimisation’ pill that he actually condemned the PSA for being too Libertarian!
*He was thoroughly in the Socialist Camp that it is the governments duty to decide what Citizens are allowed to ingest*

He was outraged that Peter Dunne was not acting Nanny Statist enough… because in his mind it was committing a crime by allowing dangerous and untested Synthetic Cannabis to be legally sold!

He relentlessly fanned the fires of Anti-Synthetic Cannabis hysteria… much to the joy of many of his Pro-cannabis Socialist mates, and condemned the Legal highs industry as evil profiteers at the expense of Hapless sheeple.

He told them to voluntarily remove their products, and castigated them for not heeding him… saying that a backlash was growing which would result in their products being banned.
I said that I didn’t think that would happen, yet I was wrong on that count… and I am sure he experienced euphoria when…. being an election year… and with all the Media sensationalism surrounding the Anti-legal high lobby that via the ensuing shysterism/ party politicking of the powers that be.. that the Libertarian portions of the Act got blotted out, and the means by which products could be deemed safe and thereby legalised… was virtually shut.

(Read my post on this >>>Here<<<) This was a leap backwards in the struggle to End Drug prohibition as it re-invigorated Prohibitionism. The world was watching and prohibitionists everywhere celebrated. Having Legal highs in New Zealand... they say... proved to be a failure. discoredia-the-evil-dead-drugs-raves-and-othe-L-MthvyL

Richard and his friend Blogger Mark Hubbard now dwell on the Dark side.
They ignore studies which suggest synthetic cannabis is relatively safe, and instead invoke terror by calling it ‘Legal Heroin’ ‘like P’…. etc… as if Libertarians support the War on Heroin and Meth!

Mark blames the Government for all the supposed troubles experienced by Legal high users… as if they have no personal responsibility.

*BOGUS!*

I have no problem with Libertarians believing certain drugs to be dangerous… even if they are getting their information from patently Dubious sources.
Of course there can be dangers involved in taking drugs.
Alcohol is dangerous… yet to say their Dangerous nature justifies Prohibitions is patently Un-libertarian and socialist!
The philosophical war they have declared is a Socialist Jihad against Individual Rights and Liberties!

call nanana

Richard’s last blog post attempts to be an argument for the government socialist interventions
He by passes the fundamental Libertarian principles which clearly define and articulate the legitimate function of government as being strictly limited to defending Rights and Liberties of individuals, and instead substitutes that with his bogus Pragmatist doctrine of ‘Harm minimisation’ which is pure Utilitarian Socialism … not Libertarianism.
To say that he is going ‘Back to basics’ could not be further from the truth

He attempts to smoke you readers by saying harm minimisation is a legitimate concern of Government with the bogus rationalisation that preventing ‘itself’ from putting people in Jail… which is harmful … as being a form of ‘Harm minimisation’ when in reality the principles involved are no such thing!
He has stitched up a sophistry which is in complete contradiction to Libertarian limited government.

The Legal and just principles against unjust imprisonment are keeping constitutional restraints forbidding the State from stepping outside it’s legitimate and just functions and encroaching upon our legitimate liberties, and violating our Rights which it has been instituted to protect!

This is black and white… lines not to crossed…. spheres of liberty, personal ethics, the pursuit of happiness, and self-responsibility… not to be encroached upon… not even for ‘harm minimisation’.

There are Powers never to be usurped… and they are not contingent upon whether or not Nanny State’s dictates are harmful or beneficial to either society or Individuals themselves.

It could very well be that some Laws could prevent idiots from harming themselves… yet to the Libertarian… that is no justification for passing oppressive laws…. which treat everyone like idiots… and gives the State paternalistic powers.
Harm minimisation is an endorsement of social interventions, not Libertarian self- ownership and responsibility.

Libertarians say that to allow the Government to legislate to protect people from themselves is to people the world with Fools.

Read my Blog post on this >>>Here<<< Richard... the Philosopher... no doubt assumes the Libertarian principle of having an arbitrary demarcation for being of Age of 'Adult consent and culpability' (in regards to being allowed to purchase alcohol without Parental permission) as being a form of 'Regulation' and 'Supply control'... which is again Bullshit. By that way of thinking All Laws are 'Regulations'... and that therefore the only 'Free market' can exist is under Anarchy. That R18 Principle of Law is necessary in regards to Legal parental rights and responsibilities, and custodianship , yet a young person ought to be able to apply for Adult Status earlier. Libertarianism is not Anarchy. It recognises a limited legitimate sphere for Government, yet these do not include 'Licensing products'... like alcohol, FDA approval, or Taxes, or 'Harm minimisation' etc. The only 'License' Libertarians would support is an R18 age restriction on the purchase and sale of liquor, etc with those whom violate this condition being criminally liable and negate their right to sell. If parents allow their own kids to enjoy alcohol, Pot, etc at a younger age, that is their own business. If Parents want to try alternative treatments on their sick infant children such as Cannabis... they have that fundamental right. I brew some booze yet I also buy Alcohol, and pay taxes on it. It does not mean I support the Status quo.... yet I still believe it is better... more Libertarian than outright prohibition. The same with proposals to 'Educate', 'Tax', and 'Regulate' Cannabis. Again I dont say that is the Libertarian Objective, yet it is better than current Prohibition. Richard and Mark have utterly abandoned Libertarianism and become Socialist Statist Prohibitionists. You have abandoned principles of Justice in favour of Socialist Utilitarian Pragmatism. To recover yourselves and to restore yourselves into the Libertarian fold is simple, and it does not require you to drop your opinion about the Safety of Synthetic Cannabis, or mean you must cease arguing that you think Real cannabis is safer. All it requires you to do is to stop arguing that 'Harm minimisation' is a legitimate concern of governments, and desist from supporting any prohibitions on drugs. If on the other hand you think the War on P, on H, and on Synthetics is justifiable, and legitimate, will them please desist from calling yourselves Libertarians. small gold guy_0

It has only been a few weeks since Synthetic cannabis was taken off the shelves, and yet My InLaws reported seeing a bunch of people sniffing glue in the Park.
So much for Harm reduction!

My Last >Blog post< criticizing the Governments reversal on synthetic cannabis received a heated response from a fan of this latest Prohibition... someone who admits they could not be bothered to actually read my post... She said ... "bit long to read extensively but i gather your saying legal highs are fine and to test them on animals would be fine? have you used it yourself or been around others who are addicted to it, in the court news for flying off the handle, seeing young parents make it a priority rather than feed their kids and even allow them the luxury of wearing a nappy....what a load of bollocks. this shit is worse than p and has no right to be in this country. in fact i think it helps the argument for legalisation of cannabis. and since when is it LEGAL to get high..hypocrisy..." End Quote. orrrwell

First things first….
I used to think that the best opinion pieces are short, yet it occurred to me while reading George Orwell, that The short opinion piece is not really of high educational value, and is in fact a product of a growing culture of Rush… and intellectual sloth… like druggies… looking for a ‘quick Hit.’

So I am not going to apologize any more to people who complain about the length of my spiels.
It’s not my problem that they cant be bothered investing the time and effort into reading my stuff.
Bugger them!
I think it’s *Extra Rich* for someone who has not bothered to read what I wrote, to then pass judgement on what I wrote!
Do you think me pedantic?
🙂

Having squared that I will now share with you my response to this woman’s criticism…. tweaked slightly to communicate with my readers rather than how it originally took aim at the silly twat herself.
(I got carried away again, and have actually added a substantial amount…. 🙂 )

Maybe I should not be so harsh…. maybe this silly Cow really is incapable of rational thought due to being absolutely consumed with ‘Righteous indignation’.
The thing is that I am so bloody sick and tired of such utter Bullshit…. stacked to the roof!
It’s typical of the Bat Shit Lunacy which was out Marching in the streets…. and given Prime time Air on Campbell live, and front page coverage on countless editions of News papers throughout the country… That I think it’s time to take the gloves off and rip into these Nasty little Morons in large numbers!

I probably have already lost 60% of my readers. Oh well.

She said Synthetic Cannabis is “Worse than P”.
I said I thought that she herself was unhinged, and asked if she was on Prescription medication?
(If not she should go see her Dr… Pronto.)

Not that I believe for a moment that P is as bad as Prohibitionists make out either!
I am merely calling her out for her wild *Highly emotive* exaggerations.
Prohibitionist civilians are predominantly throngs of mindless Zombies.
Incapable of being objective.

Notice the examples she sites as evidence that Synthetic Cannabis is Evil.
Prohibitionists always take the most pathetic people who have virtually *zero ethics* and zero self control, and who exceed recommended doses etc…. as being the poster child/ yardstick for measuring the drug… as if the Drunken bums who drink meths and sleep under bridges are the *standard* by which alcohol should be measured… instead of using the sensible hard working adults who enjoy a couple of beers after work… as their examples… and this is because they seek to delude themselves and everyone else that we need to model our society around the hapless Idiots and social misfits in our midst, rather than around sensible adults.

I make the point that there are plenty of people who smoke the legal high’s on a Friday night, Saturday… and don’t starve their kids or leave them without nappies.
By far the majority of drug users behave sensibly and don’t allow their indulgences to lead them to wreak and ruin… thus proving the notions of the the prohibitionists to be nothing more than an outrageous and un-objective Rantings.

Obviously there are *other factors* at play as to why *some few* people abuse the drugs, and live chaotic lives.
They have maturity problems.
They have a lack of ethics.
They have troubled lives and up bringing s.

*These are the types of real underlying issues that cause the problems!

Drug abuse is merely a symptom of Damaged personalities.
It has little at all to do with the Drugs themselve!
If anything These troubled souls are taking drugs to ‘self medicate’… to sooth their frayed nerves… to bring some pleasure into what is their Train wreak of a life.

CHILD ABUSE PIC EFFECTS

Yet the prohibitionist never wants to fully analyse the circumstances regarding why some people are really going of the rails…. because if they discover *other factors* are involved…. then they cant climb on their Prohibitionist hobby horse…. and man o man they love to flog that thing!

They say stuff like…

” My Boy was a wonderful young Lad… yet when he hit university he hooked up with a crowd of young hoodlums… and they led him down the Garden path… and he started doing Drugs!
Nek Minut… it was like he was a completely different person!
We couldn’t even talk any more… he was always high!
He would sneak out at night, and when he came home he would go straight to his room… and lock the door.
Whenever I tried to talk to him… he would just scream abuse!….”
“Yip! It was those Evil Drugs!
They turned him into a monster!…”
********************************

ignoram

*This sort of crap really gets up my nose because of how it absolutely blames the young adult and the drugs for the break down in communication… and the swift change of the relationship… the distance and alienation.

Yes their Young adults have discovered and are experimenting with drugs!
They managed to do this *In spite of the tyrannical prohibitions* which threaten to destroy their lives should the Jackbooted police get wind of things.
*At least when drugs are legal they don’t have to face such heinous oppression from a hypocritical and bigoted society!
Some of them dont like getting high and move along… others really enjoy it…. and wake up to how They have been lied to their whole lives about how ‘evil’ drugs are.
They have an enlightenment… that Prohibition is Bogus!
That in reality it is the Laws of Prohibition which are shameful and wrong.

SORRY MUMMY! THE GAME IS UP! THEY KNOW THE TRUTH!

Then along comes Mom with her tired old bullshit screeching…
“Cannabis will kill you!”
“Not under my Roof!”
I’ll call the Police”
“Cannabis will put you in Jail”
Etc etc…. and you wonder why Johnny calls Mom a Stupid old Bitch and tells her to F- OFF!

He knows you are speaking from a position of complete ignorance.
Every world you say is Rubbish you have been fed by the Prohibitionist media and Draconian Police.
Do yourself a favour… climb down off your high horse…. and actually try informing yourself about what the other side of the Debate has to say for itself…

Oh…. so you say you do know!
You say that you smoked weed when you were at Uni!
Well then what the hell are you doing yelling at your own kids?
If you do know anything at all then you should know how much BULLSHIT you are spouting at your own kids.
Hypocrite

ShoutingParentsTeen_m_0904

It never occurs to such ‘Parents’ that the reason why their Adult Kids prefer to get high with their mates and not talk to them any more is because they are so sick of their outrageous BULLSHIT!
It never occurs to them that it is their own fanatical Bigotry which has destroyed the relationship they had with their Young adults… and has alienated them!*

Ie the primary cause of the relationship breakdown is their own Anti-drug Mania!
Get That?

Man-yelling

Some Parents have a real problem with their Kids growing up and making their own decisions.
Some parents seek to keep their kids under their thumbs, and loose their marbles when their now grown up kids refuse to simply do as they are told…
So they blame the drugs!

Hell may freeze over first yet if they want to restore their relationship with their Kids, they need to stop being such Tyrants.
They need to quit Rantings and Ravings like Muslim Fanatics!
No wonder your kids would rather sleep on the Streets… to get away from *YOU!

You can still voice your opinion and lay down rules of behaviour in your house, but wisdom dictates you should do so using tact… without acting like a psychopath.
You may say you love your kids but your actions make it almost impossible to love you back.
If you keep telling your sons and daughters that they are losers and are a disappointment… that can utterly crush their sense of self worth and push them into Gangs etc whom will welcome them with open arms.

In my opinion the very best Parents were the tolerant ones whom allowed their kids and their friends to quietly hang out in the Garage… rarely encroaching there themselves unless things were getting too rowdy, and that way they maintained a respectful relationship with their adult kids… did not drive them out of the home at a young age…. got to know and influence their friends… and always knew where their kids were at night… having given them somewhere safe to enjoy themselves.

fubar3

When I speak of ‘Kids’ I am specifically referring to 18+… yet suggest you show understanding to your Kids even earlier than that… 15 years old We were driving Cars.
at 16 we were legal to have sex and had left school, and started apprenticeships…
And it is at this age that most young people will come into contact with Pot… even though it is illegal.
If you take a liberal approach you can still express your concerns yet do so in a loving manor, and demonstrate that you know they are growing up fast… and need some space to make their own choices.
Let them party in your garage… Friday through Sunday.
That’s my advise… and you will maintain a good relationship with them and will be able to indirectly exercise far more control, than if your kids choose to do there Friend thing somewhere else.

Prohibition does not Prevent young people from getting, experimenting, and enjoying drugs.
It merely means they may get them from ‘dodgy dealers’, and exposes them to the Hazard of having their Rights and liberties violated by Draconian Police… getting a criminal record which affects their future Job prospects and ends any hope of Overseas travel.

Stephen Coon, the brother of school shooter Asa Coon, is taken into custody.

So For Goodness Sake why would any caring parent be happy that the Government has created more Laws which threaten to turn your Kids, your friends, and your neighbours into criminals and outcasts?
How can you celebrate that?
Why would you join Matches and lobby government to create more oppressive laws which will be turned against your own Children?

I can understand that a parent may be terrified that their Kids may get arrested, yet that is no excuse to employ Bully tactics against them, and call them losers, etc.
If anything this fear should motivate Moms and Dads to join organisations which call for an end to the war on drugs… to end the tyranny which threatens the well being of so many peaceful youth simply wanting to have a good time.
*What sort of Crime is that?*

*WAKE UP MOM!*
The War on Drugs is a greater threat to the well being of your Kids than Drugs are themselves!
Teach your Kids strong ethics and principles of self responsibility…. don’t neglect to instil good values and engage in character building … and simply rely on Legal prohibitions to keep your Kids safe!
It is their inner compass which they use to navigate themselves through life which is the vital component in living as a free adult in a world in which Drugs, Alcohol, Fast cars, fast woman, and other things exist which require proper ethics to contend with.

*GET A GRIP DADDY O!*
You cant wrap your kids up in cotton Wool.
You cant Ban everything.
Banning things doesn’t work!

Dunne fails Drugs Test. Colin Espiner. Sunday Star Times. May 4 2014

legal_high_jinks

A very good commentary appeared in this weeks Sunday Star Times which articulates many of my own opinions regarding Peter Dunne’s/ The National Party collapse and back pedal regarding the PSA and banning all Synthetic Cannabis products.

This was Election year shystery on an almost unprecedented scale in recent memory… to the degree that it absolutely caught me off guard… so resolute were all voices, on all sides that the PSA was working and that Banning things was not the solution.
I heard these words directly from horses in both Major party Stables only a few weeks ago at the Hamilton contingent of the Anti-legal high rallies.
I should not have been so naive… Of course absolutely nothing is safe… nothing is absolutely ‘not for sale’ on election year, and the sensationalist socialist conservative media was having a field day with this hot potato… the likes of TV3’s John Campbell was relishing playing ‘Moral Cleric’ and inciting a Jihad on Legal highs with the most un-objective and grubby media sensationalism.

Silly me.

Labour’s barrel scraping leader David Cunliffe spotting an opportunity to score political points against National shamelessly and without regard for Justice or the Social costs,… without a scrap of objectivity or scientific vindication decided it was in Labours political best interest to reneg on their support for Peter Dunnes PSA… and I am sure many of Labours and Nationals own MPs were just as surprised as me at the swiftness of this reversal and re-posturing…. and greatly embarrassed by it as they had only weeks ago argued that the PSA was working and that ‘Banning stuff’ doesn’t work!
(Yet I dont expect their embarrassment lasted long, and has been overcome by the political gains their party made via this shysterism)

I also know that for none of them… esp not Peter Dunne… was the underlying ideas of establishing Legal alternatives to alcohol the real ambition of the PSA.
It was always primarily a tool whereby Parliament could Ban substances produced in synthetic Drug labs as they appeared on the shelves, and Dunne and co were always actively encouraging the State health system, etc to file negative and highly subjective reports about Legal highs to be used by parliament as vindications for manufacturing new legislative prohibitions.
Add to this that PM John Key has vetoed the use of animals for testing the safety of legal highs… while still allowing it on other products… just goes to show how shystery and duplicitous this whole Mickey Mouse PSA ‘Due precess’ really is.

The world was very interested in the Psychoactive Substances Act, and was hailing it as an enlightened alternative to the failing and oppressive prohibitions and the war on drugs…. expecting New Zealand to be one of the first western nations to have clinically tested and relatively safe legal recreational alternatives to alcohol.
Well Dunne failed the drug test! and what is most sad about it is that not only will this cause suffering to the industry, jobs, etc, and suffering to Recreational drug users whom must now return to the illicit black market… the ripples with travel about the globe because the truth about how this attempt at establishing a legitimate/ Legal high market was torpedoed… by posturing spineless Politicians who put their own self-interest on an election year…ahead of justice and Social well being …will be buried, and instead the notion will be that ‘Synthetic cannabis was found to cause great social chaos in New Zealand’…. therefore attempts in other nations by reformers to mitigate the War on drugs and to set up a regulatory system which allows relatively safe alternatives to alcohol… like Synthetic cannabis will meet a strengthened Anti-drug resistance armed with the False Data from this outward looking New Zealand legislative failure.

I also think that this reversal has set back any hope of the legalisation of cannabis because these moves have Revitalised the Prohibitionists, whom were beginning to falter…. and so I shake my head and sigh that so many Activists who seek an end to the War on cannabis, had so little foresight, so little moral integrity as to buy into all the Anti-legal high hype, and jump onto the Prohibitionist wagon and join the throng calling to Ban synthetic cannabis.
Many did so wilfully refusing to apply their first hand knowledge about how prohibitions are fuelled by irrational exaggerations, un-objectivity, lies, and ignorant fears… ie “Reefer Madness”, etc.
They did so in pure hypocrisy, out of an unprincipled and devious belief that some how the more they incited terror against synthetic cannabis… and hyped up just how evil society imagined these products were… that somehow this would make cannabis appear much more ‘acceptable’.
I think they have mis-calculated badly…. even though in New Zealand we can expect the entire future conversation of the Cannabis reform movement to have shifted away from Cannabis use being a rightful liberty and being safer than alcohol, to now a call for an end to cannabis prohibition by primarily using this newly manufactured mania against synthetics… as a lever… as a threat…even though the perceived Dangers synthetics poses to the public is largely founded upon lies.
For me it is shameful to try and capitalise off the oppression of another unpopular minority for the sake of your own advantage.
I refuse to be party to it.

These events clearly demonstrate just how exposed life and liberty is to the Machiavellian whiles of Party Politics in New Zealand because we have no constitutional protection against power lusting Demagogues who put their own interests ahead of Rights, Liberties, Justice, and Social well-being.
We are utterly expose to the winds of Media manufactured terror.
The survival of PSA was a house of cards…. relying solely on the maintenance of the cross-party consensus as to its pragmatic value and Users and distributors were fed to the hounds as soon as one party blinked.

The ultimate travesty will be that inspite of Cunliffe/ Key systerism Re The PSA Labour will fail to get elected and so the rights and well being of the Users and distributors will have been sacrificed for nought!

And the collapse demonstrated just how full of unscrupulous Bastards our parliament is peopled with.
If we had a just Libertarian Constitution, virtually none of them could function.
All their Legal mumbo jumbo would be binned.
They would be like Evil witches with their wands taken away!

Ironically One party did maintain themselves and refused to back the new changes (passed though the house tonight).
The Greens.
They refused to be swayed, saying they believed the perceived dangers driving the prohibitions were exaggerations and that in reality the PSA had been working!
Is it a Blue Moon?
I find myself Saluting the Greens!
Well done!

Norml J Day Protest Hamilton 2014

Hamilton Jay Day 2014 002
Hamilton New Zealand.

An Eternal vigilance Salute goes out to Hamilton Activist Gary Chiles for organising the Norml J Day for the Waikato this Year.
It took place in the Hamilton Domain (Lake Stage) despite the fact that Hamilton City Council had tried to stop the event taking place on the basis that it violated their new ‘Smoke Free’ policy for public spaces.
Gary decided that he could not in good conscience allow such a pretext hinder his intention to rally Middle Earth Hobbits, wizards, and Ents for this annual protest against Cannabis prohibition.
It was peaceful Civil disobedience at it’s finest, Everyone was well behaved, and by the time I hopped back on my Triumph… gratefully… no one had seen any sight of the Police.

Hamilton Jay Day 2014 004

I had already asked Gary for a speaking spot in today’s program, before the Council decided not to grant permission for Norml to use this domain.

This ruling put Gary and people like myself who had already said they would participate in this day of peaceful protest against oppressive prohibition in a very difficult position and we had to make a moral decision to step up for the sake of the cause…. an act of peaceful civil disobedience.
I got up and spoke for 5 minutes.

I Attempted to motivate people into becoming active in the struggle to end Cannabis Prohibition.
As a Libertraian Independent, I asked for Hamilton Westies to give me their Candidate vote this election, and suggested they give their Party vote to ALCP because IMO they have Cannabis users best interests at heart.

The following is the script I had penned as a ruff guide to my speech… which I ended up ‘winging’ to a great extent…

Hamilton Jay Day 2014 016

My Jay day speech 2014.

Hi Everyone, my name it Tim Wikiriwhi and I am an Independent Libertarian whom is standing for parliament in the up and coming election, for the seat of Hamilton West.

I have been actively involved in activism for ending the war on drugs for over 15 years.
I used to smoke a lot of Pot in my younger days and was arrested and processed 3 times so I know first hand just how oppressive and unjust prohibition is, and how it generates social alienation.

There have been some amazing progress on this issue in the US and other places.
Recreational use of Cannabis has been legalized in some states , yet here in New Zealand The movement to End prohibition seems to be barely treading water.
Why is this?
Many reasons… the main one being complacency by kiwi smokers themselves.

Another reality that it is certainly much easier to get the Government to ban things than un-ban things.

Just look at how easily the Anti-Legal high prohibitionists were able to get unprecedented media coverage, while the Legalise pot movement gets almost Zero…. In spite of the war on Drugs being such an overwhelming failure and drain on our legal system.

In spite of many Global Big wigs…. Including Helen Clark sitting in High Office in the UN declaring the War On drugs causes much more social evils and injustice than drug use does!

When I look at the Shrill alarmism of all the Moms and grannies who turned up at Ban the Legal High rallies, and then read about the relief and joy they felt at hearing about the election year reversal on the PSA and Banning of all synthetic highs…. I marvell that they are happy that their young ones are again exposed to police brutality, and that Police can now Bust Their young adults for quietly smoking these substances…. They rejoice at the Idea that their young people will get Police records… etc.

Isn’t that Crazy?

To me this demonstrates not only how Bigoted phobias operate, but also a wilful ignorance of just how evil the War is that they are supporting… it’s a war on their own Kids, their friends and neighbors.

We need to challenge that ignorance… we need to expose just how unjust and tyrannical the war on drugs is.
If we can do that…. Then we will have the Moms and the Grannies marching in the streets…. Calling for and end to the war…. And the Media will grab hold of it…. And parliament will fold….
That is how the system works.

Hamilton Jay Day 2014 017

We have a lot of work to do changing the perception about just how nasty and wrong the War on drugs really is.

Yet that will only happen if you guys…. Pots smokers and Libertarians stop sulking…. Stop accepting all the slurs that the bigots heap upon you as being Dopey and lazy…. And claim the high moral ground which is rightfully yours!
Get up off your butts and agitate for change!
We need everyone to get serious and demand Liberation.

jdday2014

Let me tell you that Pot smokers and Libertarians by far out number the Vocal bigots who managed to grab the Media attention and sway Parliament to Ban Legal highs.
Way out number them.
Thus it cant be said that we lack numbers.
We only lack the will and the fortitude

How many people turned up today just because they thought this was a great day for smoking Weed?
While I appreciate you showing up, the truth is this day is about rallying support for Legal reforms, and if you do nothing for the cause in between Jay days… you are just a pretender… just a sheep.

Get agitating for change Guys.
This is election year.
I am sorry if I’ve laid a heavy trip on you…. And ruined your Buzz, I cant help that…. If the shoe fits… etc.
If that has been you… the good news is you can change that by getting active.

Be forthright in defense of your inalienable rights to peacefully pursue your own happiness!
condemn the bigotry every time it rears its ugly head in your presence!
Use The Social networks.
Contact Norml and ask what you can do to help.

We must rededicate ourselves to the struggle and regain momentum.

That’s all I’ve got to say.
I am Libertarian Independent Tim Wikiriwhi
I ask Hamilton Westys to give me your Candidate vote this election,n and suggest you use your party vote for the ALCP.

Thank you Gary Chiles for organizing today’s protest, thanks to the bands and every one else who is participating in this even despite Hamilton city Council and thanks everyone for Listening.
Enjoy the rest of your day

Tim Wikiriwhi.
Libertarian Independent.

Peter Dunne: U-turn on legal highs

and

Legal high u-turn: better late than never

read the headlines.

But there is no U-turn. It’s a full 360°. Here‘s what Peter Dunne’s now saying.

Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne has announced today that when parliament resumes the government will introduce and pass under urgency legislation removing from sale all remaining so called ‘legal highs’.

But here‘s what the Associate Minister of Health, Peter Dunne, said in March last year.

Last month, the New Zealand Government introduced new legislation into our Parliament …

We are going to reverse the onus of proof so the manufacturers of these products have to prove they are safe before they can bring them on to the market.

Currently, the onus is on the Government to identify the substances that are being sold, test them and prove that they warrant sufficient harm to be prohibited.

That approach has undermined our best efforts to keep our young people safe, and left the rather tawdry legal highs industry constantly one step ahead, despite our best efforts.

Instead of reversing the onus of proof like Peter Dunne said the government would, Peter Dunne allowed the sale of 15 novel, untested research chemicals to the general public. The safety profiles of these 15 chemicals was, and still is, unknown.

This approach, asking the industry to identify the substances that are being sold, but then not testing them and not proving that they warrant sufficient harm to be prohibited, for the entirety of a nine month “interim” period, undermined the government’s best efforts to keep our young people safe, and left the rather tawdry legal highs industry constantly one step ahead, despite their best efforts.

But now Peter Dunne’s reversed his U-turn and followed through on his original promise.

So, why are my fellow drug law reformers now complaining?

This Government is trying to hold back the rising tide of global drug law reform by any means necessary.
Once this massive wave of change has crashed down on their heads, they’ll all emerge from the backwash claiming that ending drug prohibition was their plan all along.

Holding back the rising tide of global drug law reform? I thought the Pychoactive Substances Act, now to be implemented as originally intended, was supposed to be world leading legislation? The government has made good on its promise, albeit nine months late, and is now making its best efforts to keep our young people safe. Isn’t reversing the onus of proof so the manufacturers of designer drugs have to prove they are safe before they can bring them on to the market exactly what you wanted? If not, why on earth are you supporting the Psychoactive Substances Act?

This subject is a political Hot potato at the moment because of the absolute spineless flip flop of the National party and Peter Dunne in regards to Legal Highs, and the Psychoactive Substances Act in the wake of Labour David Cunliffes desperate and dirty Election year tactics to ride the wave of mindless phobia, media sensationalism, and non-scientific condemnation of synthetic cannabis use.
We have witnessed a full revival of the Witch Craze… “Synthetic Reefer Madness” .

No. What we’re witnessing is the National government deciding not to be criminally insane and instead making good on Peter Dunne’s original prohibitionist promise. Again, I ask, why on earth are you supporting the Psychoactive Substances Act? In a couple of weeks, once the blanket ban on soon-to-be-not “legal highs” comes into force, we’ll back to peak prohibition. Peak prohibition was always the intent of the Psychoactive Substances Act. For heaven’s sake, it was masterminded by Peter Dunne! What else did you expect?! The testing regime, whereby only psychoactive substances proven to be “low-risk” (at the sole expense of the would-be distributor) are allowed to be sold, isn’t even in sight. That light you think you see at the end of the tunnel? It’s a train wreck in slow motion coming for you!

As I’ve always maintained, the Psychoactive Substances Act is pure evil.

What can drug law reformers do now? Two things.

First, join the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party. This September 20, tick the leaf. Vote for sensible cannabis law reform! 🙂

Second, give credit where credit’s due. Right now credit’s due to the Labour Party and, in particular, to Hutt South MP Trevor Mallard. Sign the petition now!

Are you against animal testing for synthetic drugs? We are.

The government hasn’t ruled out animal testing in the changes to the legal high laws yet. Labour’s suggested a change that’ll protect animals – but it’ll only be successful if enough of us put pressure on the government to do the right thing. So we’ve started a petition to put the pressure on.

Sign the petition now! www.labour.org.nz/AnimalTesting

Hell’s Bells! Drugs and Alcohol are being consumed in an Adult manner by the employed masses!

afroman

Afroman… what Druggies are supposed to be like… turns out this common portrayal is contradicted by the facts.

Some News reports stick out like Dogs Balls for their sheer incredulity.
This one in particular is from Stuff…. Live chat: Kiwis’ drug use
It reports what is assumed to be shocking revelations….

“An invisible swathe of middle-class New Zealanders are drinking heavily and indulging in drugs, a new survey has found.

Fairfax Media’s involvement in the Global Drugs Survey on worldwide drug use has for the first time revealed how entrenched alcohol and drugs – both legal and illegal – are in our everyday lives.”

“The survey reveals interesting and shocking glimpses into the drug habits of the 5731 New Zealand respondents, who had a mean age of 34.7, about half of whom had an undergraduate degree, and 84 per cent of whom were employed.”
**************************************

84%!!!!! Shocking aye…. if you are a Twat! 🙂

Now let me ‘re-interpret this Data.

For ‘invisible swathe of middle class..’ read ‘the majority of Sensible people who consume recreational drugs in an adult fashion so as not to cause any problems’… *that’s why they are ‘Invisible’.*
Because they peacefully pursue their own happiness without causing social chaos… they slip under the Police/ Media radar.
These people contradict all the prohibitionist hype and stereotyping…. shocking aye!

What more they prove that Alcohol and drug use is not synonymous with welfare parasitism and incompetence…. 84% hold down jobs!
Ie they self regulate their drug use…. times and amounts so as not to impede their ability to function at work.

*This is exactly the sort of Ethical behaviour which embodies principles of Libertarian Adult self responsibility*…. shocking aye.

What more it makes a joke of the prohibitionist notions regarding drug testing at work… should they actually succeed in sacking all drug users… our economy would collapse!

Yet these truths are absolutely absent from current Dogma regarding Drugs in the workplace…. testing for traces…. rather than for impairment.
Now that is shocking.

POLICY STATEMENT

LIB

The Libertarianz Party strives for a future New Zealand in which Nanny State no longer coddles and chastises us at every turn. We envision a New Zealand in which parents exercise authority over their children, and adults are free to do as they please, so long as they respect other people’s freedoms and take full responsibility for the consequences of their own actions. In such a libertarian utopia, there will simply be no need for legislation banning things which have a “moderate potential for harm”. Parents will see to it that their children stay out of harm’s way, adults will take responsibility for their own welfare, and the government will not waste your money on futile efforts to stem the tide of human nature. Ultimately, we would repeal the Misuse of Drugs Act. Meanwhile, the Libertarianz Party has a transitional drugs policy: to legalise all drugs safer than alcohol. This policy would result in the legalisation of a surprisingly large number of substances already scheduled in the Misuse of Drugs Act – and all of them safer to take on a night out than a few drinks.

– Dr. Richard Goode, Spokesman on Drugs for the Libertarianz Party, 2007

I’m now with the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party, but still a libertarian. It is my personal view that we should legalise all drugs. Starting with cannabis. Let’s see how cannabis legalisation goes, and take it from there.

If it were up to me, I’d rank all drugs in order of safety, and legalise them in that order, over an extended period of time. That’s my policy. Obviously, most of the current crop of legal highs would be some way down the list.

By legalising drugs in order of safety over a period of time, we can monitor the effects of the policy, and call a halt at any time. If it turns out that we’ve take one step too far, we can always quit while we’re only one step behind.

Sounds like a plan?

Be kind to Hone Harawira

1540496_10151913459877671_2098496614_o

Hone Harawira wants to execute legal high retailers, reports Whale Oil.

According to the New Zealand Herald, families demand scrapping of legal-high laws, but Mana Party Leader and Te Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira wants to take things a whole lot further.

Mana MP Hone Harawira … said drug retailers should be killed.

“If there is one law I could pass, it would be line up the guys who are making the most money out of this legal drug stuff, put them on TV and then publicly execute them, and then introduce a law to say the next bastard that does it is going to get the same treatment,” he said.

I don’t doubt that Harawira said this.

Let’s be clear. He wants manufacturers and retailers who are going about their legal business to be publicly executed. He would like the State to kill manufacturers and retailers who are licenced to manufacture and retail legal highs under legislation that was passed near unanimously by Parliament in July of last year.

By now, everyone knows that Hone Harawira’s addicted to hate. How should we respond to his latest not-even-barely-concealed homicidal exhortations?

Hey, Hone, here’s an idea. Instead of executing the manufacturers and retailers who are operating within the regulatory boundaries set down by the Psychoactive Substances Act 2013, let’s execute the 119 MPs who last year voted for the new law instead. Oh, wait, that includes you, Hone! (Do as I say or I’ll kill you? Do as I say *and* I’ll kill you!)

Bad idea. Repaying hate with hate is what’s made Hone the hateful man he is today. He bears a grudge against the majority of his fellow kiwis and their ancestors who behaved badly. “White motherfuckers have been raping our lands and ripping us off for centuries and all of a sudden you want me to play along with their puritanical bullshit.” (Puritanical bullshit? This from the man who wants to close down legal high shops. Right.)

There’s no mana in calling for the judicial killing of law-abiding citizens. (And none, of course, in calling for a dictatorship under John Banks.)

Here’s a better idea. Let’s treat Hone Harawira with kindness. Let’s listen to his legitimate concerns. Let’s even consider shutting down the legal highs industry, at least until such time as its products have been properly tested and have passed the safety tests that the industry itself is promoting.

In what I just said, I may sound like anything but a libertarian … but I’m still very much a libertarian. (Got that, Tim?!) God knows, I’m all for legal drugs! But I don’t want to see New Zealand’s bold regulatory experiment be judged a failure and I very much fear that I’m witnessing a train wreck in slow motion. It would be a smart move on the part of the legal highs industry to voluntarily remove its products from the shelves. Because, next to the unfortunate few (or not so few) who have suffered physical and psychological harms as a result of consuming the industry’s products, those whom the implementation of the interim period is hurting (or is going to hurt) the most … is the industry itself. IMHO.

In the interim, opposition to the legal highs industry is only going to increase between now and September’s general election. New Zealand’s most influential political blogger is increasingly vocal in his opposition. Things look set to escalate up another notch early next month when the anti-synthetics brigade takes to the streets on Saturday 5 April in a coordinated nationwide protest. How is it all going to end?

All will be well that ends well if we legalise cannabis. And do so as soon as possible, i.e., now. From a public health perspective, it’s literally insane that the safer, natural alternative to the synthetic cannabinoids remains illegal while untested, synthetic substitutes are given the State seal of approval. And if we’d legalised cannabis a decade or so ago or never criminalised it in the first place, we wouldn’t be dealing with the current situation. I told you so … 🙁
