St. Matthew-in-the-City

I find the latest billboard from Auckland Anglican church St. Matthew-in-the-City offensive.

I’m not someone who usually gets offended. My motto is, “Take drugs, not umbrage.” But I’m starting to feel like I’m missing out. So, just for once, I thought I’d give it a go. I don’t have any feathers, so I’ve ruffled what little hair I have left instead. I’m offended. Deeply so. And if you find *that* offensive, well … let’s be offended together!

  1. St-Matthew-in-the-City already performs civil unions.

“It should be of no surprise that St Matthew’s with its long history of supporting the full inclusion of the LGBTQ community in both the church and society endorses the bill. Our question is why would any church not endorse two people making a loving commitment to each other?” Reverend Clay Nelson said.

I find this disconcerting. I would no more expect a Christian church to endorse gay marriage than I would expect it to endorse me shacking up with my girlfriend.
